Discussion Guides

Four facilitation guides for the audiences who matter most

Each guide is timed, scripted at a high level, and pairs directly with the coalition toolkit templates.

How to pick a guide
Start with the audience you have a meeting with in the next 30 days. Each guide assumes basic familiarity with PAYS but no prior data-facilitation experience.

The four guides

Coalition meeting (60 min)

County coalition boards, CTC teams, multi-sector partnerships

Use after the data-walk to align partners on top three priorities.

Open run-of-show

School board / leadership (30 min)

Superintendents, principals, school board directors

Focus on school climate and mental-health items most relevant to local policy.

Open run-of-show

Parent or caregiver night (45 min)

PTA/PTO, parent advisory councils, faith-based parent groups

Translate findings into the conversations parents can have at home.

Open run-of-show

Youth voice circle (45 min)

Student councils, peer leaders, youth advisory boards

Put PAYS findings in front of the students they describe.

Facilitator principles

Lead with the headline, not the table

Open with one sentence about what changed. Save the data table for the discussion, not the warm-up.

Translate <GlossaryLink term='Prevalence'>prevalence</GlossaryLink> into people

'14% of 10th graders' lands harder as 'about 4 students in every classroom of 30.'

Capture decisions, not just discussion

Every guide ends with a named owner and a 30-day next step. If you skip that, the meeting doesn't move work.
